Axis of evil

From TinWiki.org

The Axis of Evil as known today was launched shortly after 9/11 when the US president launched the War on Terror. This term is used to refer to the nations that the presidency regards as enemies of the USA.

The name 'Axis of Evil' is probably a throwback to WWII. At the time the Axis powers were an alliance of nations consisting primarily of Nazi Germany's Third Reich, Mussolini's Italy and the Japanese Empire. They were referred to by the Allies as being an 'Axis of Evil' as part of their propaganda. Similarly, the use of the term once again in the modern world is most likely part of a propaganda campaign to gain support for military action against these deemed enemies. By relating these nations to the enemies of WWII, and by implying these nations are somehow 'evil', public opinion of these nations in the USA and other Western powers can be turned sour.

Nations Targeted

The following countries where labelled by the US president:

  1. Iraq
  2. Iran
  3. North Korea

These nations too were implicated, though deemed less of a threat:

  1. Cuba
  2. Libya
  3. Syria

Since then the USA has invaded the number one threat, Iraq, purportedly under false pretences, and removed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, hence removing them from the list. A future attack against Iran, next on the list, is widely speculated.
