Category talk:Mind Control

Sub-categories

I think several of the categories in tinWiki could rightly appear as sub-categories here. So this mind control topic is perhaps bigger than it could seem right now from how the categories are organized.

Structures of sub categories and main categories is probably a very sensible thing to focus more on. Optimist 18:57, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

There really doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do it intuitively here. The best way I have seen so far is the page you created, the Category List. Do you have any ideas on a way we could accomplish this that allows users to do this? Or do you think it should just be something sysops need to keep an eye out for? I think discussions, debate, communication and so on, is one of the most helpful ways to improve the category structure. For me, I also like to write stuff down in my user page to just remember thoughts I may come up with. So, ideas (and remembering them) is probably number one. How to go about it in practice, improving the category structure, is probably to of course actually categorize categories -- like the new Terrorism category which is now a main category for the 9/11 sub category (and also vice versa), as you know. Then, like you say, to be able to have some visible display of the category structures, that apparently needs to be done manually. Which is of course where the Category list page comes in. Btw., in honesty, I didn't create that page. :-)
As for who should manage the categories, I think I read in a help page that only sysops are supposed to create new categories and such, but while it may be good to keep control limited to sysops, I think the most important thing is to just get thoughts and ideas up on the table, so to say. Like a brainstorming, or by really focusing on having a huge big virtual white board thing or black board, and giving out pencils and chalk to everyone. :-) That's probably something that's a way to go in general, trying to find more and better ways of making tinWiki seem as immediately available to work on as speaking in public, so to say, can possibly be. Of course people should be serious when doing stuff here, but, while still keeping that as fundamental, inside the frame of that, simplifications and lowering the threshold, or what they say, is probably a concern that should always be there, always making sure that anyone with the slightest serious interest feels that there's 'nothing to it' to open an edit window. If you see what I mean. The immediate interaction between the information and the visitors, that's what a wiki like this is all about, of course. Well, I went off on a little tangent there. As for the category list, maybe it's possible to give it an even more prominent position, more visibility. But, with the new Main Page layout or such, it has already got a fairly visible link, it's the one that's called "Content", right under the gray box. Not sure how these thoughts seemed. Guess it was a little brain storming of my own. :-) Optimist 20:20, 1 June 2008 (CDT)
