El ChupacabraFrom TinWiki.org(Redirected from Chupacabra)
El Chupacabra, literally "The Goat Sucker", is a cryptozoological animal blamed for attacking any kind of small creatures, from chickens to children. The chupacabra is heard of mostly since the early 1990s, mainly from the island of Puerto Rico.
[edit] BackgroundThe name "The Goat Sucker" was given because some of its earliest reported victims were goats. The animals were usually found with puncture wounds to the neck and were drained of their blood. No one really knows when the phenomenon started, but it became well-known on the island of Puerto Rico in 1994. That is also when the name "El Chupacabra" is said to have been coined. According the earliest accounts, the livestock attacks began shortly after Hurricane Hugo passed over the island. Rumors started that the Chupcabra escaped from a damaged secret United States military lab, where genetic experiments were allegedly being carried out. Soon after, the sightings spread to Central America, Mexico, South America and finally the Southern U.S. The animals are usually described as being from two to four feet in length, covered with long coarse hair or bristles, and emitting a rather foul stench like that of sulfur. To date, none of the 'supposed' attacks on humans have been fatal. [edit] OriginsThere are many theories on the origins of the Chupacabra. There is the theory that the beast is the result of experiments done by the United States government, and escaped and spread into the wild. Some claim the creatures are the pets of visiting extraterrestrials, which perhaps wandered off and got lost. The Chupacabra attacks are mostly reported as being carried out at night, which leads to speculation that the animals are subterranean. These theories have mainly spread on the Internet, and there is no accepted actual proof that the Chupacabra exists. There is only testimony from alleged eyewitnesses. [edit] Descriptions
There have been varying descriptions of the Chupacabra appearing in three specific forms,
[edit] TheoriesThere are several theories about this creature: [edit] ExtraterrestrialA few people think this creature was a pet of extraterrestrials who had visited the Earth a long time ago. There is also speculation that NASA is somehow involved in the Chupacabra's earthly residence. [edit] VampireThere has been some speculation on whether not this creature is some sort of vampire, because of when it attacks the animal it drinks its blood, and there have been puncture marks left on the dead animals. [edit] Wild animalThere are those that suggest the chupacabra is nothing more than wild animals or animals that were illegally kept then released into the wild such as stray dogs and baboons. Sometimes also diseased coyotes or foxes with severe cases of mange have been so altered in appearance that people report seeing an unknown animal. [edit] Genetic experimentAnother suggestion is that these animals were the result of secret government experimentation with genetics, perhaps mingled with various mutagenic chemicals that are rumored to be under study, for example the famous 'agent orange' as well as other dioxin-based chemical agents. These rumored activities in various parts of the world are hypothetically capable of giving rise to such widely scattered reports of anomalous creatures. [edit] Rumored captureIt was reported by Marcial Campos Maza of the EFE news service in Chile and by Joseph Trainor of UFO Roundup in the United States that three creatures had been captured alive near a mine in the north of the town of Calama. It was reported that after the army held the creatures for a few hours, representatives from NASA arrived from the U.S. by helicopter and took the creatures away.
