Crop CirclesFrom TinWiki.org
Crop Circles are a world-wide phenomenon of strange markings usually found in farmer’s fields that are purposefully created. Large areas of crops are flattened into various geometric patterns that range from the simple to the complex.
[edit] HistoryThe crop circle era became more known around the 1970’s after the Bower and Chorley hoaxes began. This lead to people beginning to investigate whether or not Crop Circles were recorded further back in history. According to some enthusiasts the earliest crop circle they found was depicted in a 17th century woodcut named the Mowing-devil. This image shows a strange creature creating circular designs in a field of corn. In the legend it states that a farmer who was disgusted at the wages a mower was demanding for his work that he insisted he would rather the devil himself perform the work. The people that believe that these crop circles are either naturally caused or formed by unknown entities often cite this tale as their reference. Another historical report is said to exist that was published in the journal Nature in 1880 (later reproduced in 2000). In the journal an amateur scientist named Brandon Meland described a field containing a number of crop circles, he suggested in this article that they might have been created by “some cyclonic wind action”. To date, thousands of circles have appeared at sites across the world, from disparate locations such as the former Soviet Union, the UK and Japan, as well as the U.S. and Canada. ![]() [edit] OriginsThere is much debate on the origins of crop circles. On one side skeptics say all crop circles are nothing but hoaxes made by men. On the other side “believers” acknowledge that some are man made while other crop circles can not be explained. [edit] Theories And BeliefsThere have been many suggested theories on how Crop circles may have been formed. [edit] The Plasma-Vortex TheoryA meteorologist named George Meaden published a book named The Circles Effect and Its Mysteries in 1989. In his book he put forward a theory that a natural wind/Electro magnetic vortex created crop circles. This theory is said to have become world famous between various groups of people in the 1980’s and was widely accepted until in the 1990’s more complicated and more accurate crop circles began to emerge. [edit] Microwave EnergyDr WC Levengood of Pinelandia Labs in Michigan and his team did various tests on the plants and soil that they had removed from different crop circle formations. They reported that they had come upon unexplained biophysical anomalies. They had come forward to do these tests as at a few crop circle sites there were reports of swollen, stretched, burst or split nodes on plant stems in a manner that they said were similar to ‘microwave energy effect’, the microwave effect is described as something that experiences rapid, intense internal heating. This is said to cause dehydrated/shrunken seeds and significant changes in seed germination and growth rate. Levengood, a plant biologist, has stated that he has repeatedly found increased growth rate in the formation seeds since he first started the investigation in 1990. He has shown in demonstrations how you can produce accelerated growth on cereal crops by exposing them to controlled, short bursts of microwaves. There were also significant chemical changes in the various soil samples that were analyzed. Associates of Levengood’s found these effects in both simple and more complex patterns, but were unable to reproduce these results by conventional hoaxing methods (e, boards, rope, feet, etc). A comprehensive preliminary report of these findings entitled Anatomical Anomalies in Crop Formation Plants was published in the peer-reviewed journal Physiologia Plantarum in October 1994 by the Burke, Levengood and Talbott research team. These studies have opened up new areas of research, including photographing at photon level the cell water that has been subjected to the energies of crop circle formations, showing clusters of energy patterns. There are also efforts to focus on ways to positively distinguish between man-made and 'genuine' formations. [edit] Telepathic CommunicationSome current researchers believe that crop circles are responsive to thought patterns. This inductive, qualitative approach in research methodology attempts to generate theory by exploring and understanding how a person or group interacts with their environment and outer events. They are said to be using group meditation, lights and music in an attempt to contact deeper energies within crop formations. They have claimed that through sensitivity and remaining focused that they have the ability to communicate and even influence the crops to produce various formations. [edit] Ancient SymbolsTaking the form of ancient or sacred symbols peculiar to humans, the appearance of crop circles are believed by many (including native tribal peoples) to herald a new epoch, helping raise our vibrations and re-awaken our deep connection to planet Earth. Their meaning according to native tribal people is said to be very important. It is suggested that Crop circles are a gateway to a more elemental or pagan side of life, showing another reality. The connection to ancient sites may hold a key to what is creating these designs, being seen as 'temporary temples' within the landscape. Within this category fall those who insist that crop circles are hermetic devices, encoding secret knowledge in their specific, geometrical designs and shapes. [edit] Earth’s EnergiesThe believers in this theory state that the Earth is in fact causing the circles in response to global warming and the danger of the ecosystem collapsing. The biochemist, James Lovelock, views all life on Earth as one super-organism, as a self-regulating system. Though controversial, his Gaia theory, which holds that the world is a living, breathing organism, may be a suitable framework for understanding crop circles, as the outward signs of where healing energy is being intelligently delivered. It is thought that the formations could also be the by-product of a self-healing process, or a psychopathologising of the anima mundi or world soul. [edit] Man Made. Many crop circles have been shown to be man made and many people have come forward admitting that they have made certain crop circles. Making crop circles is costly. Not for the circle maker but for the farmer whose crops are getting crushed. Circle makers usually use a plank of wood with a rope tied to it end to end. They step on the plank and flatten the crop. Some larger circles require a team of circle makers and will take hours to make. [edit] Known Creators of Crop Circles.John Lundberg, Wil Russell, Rob Irving and Rod Dickinson of England’s 'Circlemakers' have made crop circles for a National Geographic production, Richard & Judy, Big Brother, Shredded Wheat, Weetabix, Banzai, Microsoft, Nike, Greenpeace, NBC, Scope, The Levellers, History Channel, as well as numerous newspapers including The Guardian, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Independant. They contribute to and run the award winning web site www.circlemakers.org As artists they have been making the circles since the early nineties and continue making their annonymous art in public by covert nightime practice. Doug Bower and Dave Chorley Veteran Doug Bower and a close friend of his Dave Chorley reveled in 1991 that they came up with the idea of crop circles whilst in the pub one evening. They are noted as saying that they made the crop circles using planks of wood, ropes, hat and wire. They stated to various reporters that a small group of people are able to create a circle in one night by using simple tools. When they thought that there work did not get as much publicity as they thought it would, they went on to create a crop circle in a highly visible area called the Winchester Punchbowl in 1981. Due to Bowers’s wife becoming suspicious of his activities and the amount of mileage that he was using in his car he confessed to her about the crop circles. This led to a British newspaper being informed. Bower then revealed on T.V the method he used which was a four foot plank with a rope attached to it, and showed that a crop circle can easily be reproduced. He went on to claim that two men in about a quarter of an hour could create a 40-foot circle. When skeptics claimed that these circles could have been created naturally Bower and Chorley created more complex patterns using a wire with a loop, hanging down from a cap the loop positioned over one eye. This could be used to focus on a landmark to aid in the creation of straight lines. Later designs of crop circles were to become increasingly complex. Dave Chorley passed away in 1996 but Doug Bower continued to create the occasional crop circle one as recently as 2004. [edit] Unknown, Possibly of Extra-Terrestrial Origins. Some circles have characteristics that are believed to be impossible for a person to duplicate. Some people take a leap and say that Aliens are making the crop circles but the evidence merely points towards an unknown origin. Reports of colored lights and high frequency sounds (notably crackling, hissing, and drilling noises) have been heard in the vicinity of where formations have later appeared. In many eyewitness accounts, UFOs have been spotted either before and after a crop circle has been discovered. These UFOs allegedly appear in different shapes, including small lights, cylinders, large balls, and Ferris wheels. Some people have witnessed UFOs appearing as a column of light shooting what seem to be electric charges, leaving behind what later turned out to be circles and pictograms. Checking showed that no night maneuvers were taking place by the military, and the objects themselves were often flying far too low for anything military. [edit] Oliver's castle video hoaxThe Oliver's Castle video is a popular video clip that was made in 1997. John Wabe, the creator of the video stepped forward and admitted that the video was a fraud on Nippon Television. [edit] External Links
