DemonFrom TinWiki.org(Redirected from Demons)
Demons, sometimes spelled "daemons", are believed to be discarnate entities or spirits that are predominantly malevolent. Such beings are referred to in religious texts and paranormal studies, especially in occultism. In most theistic religions, demons are supposedly a collective part of evil, and reside in lower dimensions such as Hell. Demons are known throughout religion, folklore, and mythology (another name used for this type of entity is "djinn"). Demons are thought to originate from the fallen angels that were banished from Heaven by God for going against him.
[edit] OriginsDemons are known of in many cultures throughout history, although where they began to originate is unknown. Christianity generally accepts demons as real, and infrequently provides exorcism services to people who believe their homes or persons to be troubled by demons. [edit] Phenomena and behaviorIt is widely believed that demons, as discarnate entities, can possess human beings or animals, and therefore control their behavior. Many spiritualists use this belief to explain why some mentally ill patients show signs of madness and often mention demons or devils in their speech. Clairaudients often speak of demonic entities that wish to cause harm to them, or take over their body. In several ghost-hunting shows such as Most Haunted or Dead Famous, this occurs shortly before an apparent possession. It should be noted however that not all possessions are initiated by demons, and may also be initiated by other malevolent spirits. A demonic possession is considered the most dangerous, since demons themselves are powerful entities. Most poltergeist activity is attributed to demons. However, poltergeist phenomena are likened to telekinesis and may therefore be an ability that can be harnessed by any spirit. [edit] See also[edit] External links
