Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman was called to the town of Dover, Massachusetts. The creature dubbed the Dover Demon happened in April between the 21st and 22nd in 1977. Various witnesses were interviewed within weeks of the sightings and Coleman decided to bring in three more investigators to help with the case; these investigators were Joseph Nyman, Ed Fogg, and Walter Webb. All of the chosen investigators were well-known ufological researchers that resided in Eastern Massachusetts.

It is interesting to note that this creature has not been disproved as hoax or other wise.

Sightings

Three teenagers who were driving through the Dover area made the first sighting of the creature; they first spotted it when the car headlight illuminated it. The driver Bill Bartlett states that he thought that it was some sort of cat or dog but as he inspected it closer he stated that it was a bizarre, unearthly-looking creature that was crawling along a stone wall on Farm Street.

He describes it as having a very large, watermelon-shaped head and illuminated orange eyes, that he described were like glass marbles. It had long, thin arms and legs with slender fingers, which it used to grasp onto the pavement. It appeared to be hairless and had fleshtoned skin described as being tan and sandpaper-like. The creature's appearance was stated as being very plain, with apparently no nose or ears, and no mouth could be seen. The drawings made by the witness show a creature as having a skull-shaped head, forming the contour of a circle on top with a more elliptical ending projecting down to include where the nose and mouth would be.

Another sighting was made roughly an hour later by a lad named John Baxter, who was 15. He describes the creature as being bipedal and he saw it running up a gully and standing next to a tree.

The next day Abby Brabham, 15, and Will Traintor, 18, claimed to have seen a similar looking creature from their car, which was standing beside the road. Brabham's description seemed to match Bartlett's and Baxter's descriptions, apart from the cryptids illuminated green eyes.

Recent Sighting

There has been an alleged sighting over the Dover Demon made by Germán Pereira in Chile May 2004. He had been taking pictures of the mounted police when he spotted the strange creature that resembles the Dover Demon The following is the photo and a detailed examination of it.

Possible Identities

There have been many theories about this Cryptid, the eyewitness accounts of it suggests that this creature is in fact real. Early ufologists that investigated this case have suggested that it is perhaps an Alien or some sort of mutant hybrid, created as a result of a human experiment and escaped. Some have also pointed out the resemblance between the drawings and that of the Alien’s known as Greys, the speculation is that this could be a Grey or even a closely related species.

Some people have theorized that the Dover Demon could be from another dimension, accidentally transferred into our world through a dimensional warp. It was also suggested that it was a newborn moose although this was quickly disproved. Among several shortcomings of the moose explanation is that the descriptions of the Dover Demon clearly show discerned fingers, while all moose, being artiodactyls have only hooves. Also at the time of year of this sighting, yearling moose are much larger, no moose records exist for eastern Massachusetts for the spring of 1977, and more. Loren Coleman destroyed the moose theory in his various talks, radio interviews, and writings that he has done since 2001.

Coleman has pointed out similarities he found to a creature that arose from the mythology of the Cree Indians, that resided in Canada, this creature was called the Mannegishi. There have also been suggestions by another cryptozoologists who stated he thought the Dover Demon was somehow connected to sightings of aquatic Beings, that have arose from around the world notably moniker "merbeings”.

It was suggested by various new-age or spiritual writers that since the sightings were made by mainly teenagers, that there could be a link to a Poltergeist-type being, a phenomenon that has often been connected with young people. Another example given was the Owlman sightings where the witnesses were all from the same age group.
