Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) is a term that was created to describe speech or speech-like sounds of paranormal origin occurring on various types of recording media. The way it usually works is that a paranormal investigator will be researching a place that may be haunted, such as a haunted house. While investigating, questions will be asked of the spirits. These will be recorded. Usually there is no response from anyone of any kind. However upon playback of the recording later on, sometimes voices will be heard or other noises. These recordings are what is known as electronic voice phenomenon.
