Exoplanet

An exoplanet is a planet orbiting a star other than our own Sun. Astronomers have recently become capable of finding planets located outside our own Solar system, and the list of discovered exoplanets is growing steadily.

There are currently [May 2007] 236 known exoplanets.[1] Among the most exciting exoplanets astronomers find are those that have a solid surface and have what we think of as the right conditions for being able to host extra-terrestrial life.
