Flatwoods MonsterFrom TinWiki.org
The Flatwoods Monster is an alleged crypitd reported to have been sighted in the town of Flatwoods, located in Braxton County, WV. The creature has also been referred to as the Braxton County Monster and the Phantom of Flatwoods.
[edit] The MonsterThe monster itself has been described as two separate things. The first of which being a glowing ball of red light that hovered above the ground. It has been suggested that perhaps this was a powered craft that was piloted by the second thing. The other description of the Flatwoods Monster varies. It is generally agreed that the monster was at least 10 feet tall and had a red face and green body. Some have described the monster has having a bulging head with non-human eyes. It is also described as having a man-shaped body wearing a dark skirt. Accounts also vary on whether or not the creature did or did not have arms. [edit] EffectsAfter encountering the creature, several witnesses have reported being overcome with symptoms which persisted for some time, that are generally attributed to having been exposed to a mist emitted by the creature. The symptoms included irritation of the nose and swelling of the throat. A doctor who treated several of the witnesses is reported to have described their symptoms as being similar to victims of mustard gas, though such symptoms are also commonly found in those who suffer from hysteria, which can be brought on by exposure to a traumatic or shocking event. [edit] Possible ExplanationsAfter taking a close look at the case, Joe Nickell of the paranormal investigation group CSICOP decided that the bright light in the sky reported by witnesses was most likely a meteor. It was also decided that the pulsating red light was likely an aircraft navigation/hazard beacon. Nickell also figured that the creature described by witnesses was most likely on owl. Members of the US Air Force also share this belief. [edit] Appearances in Popular Culture
