A ghost is the spirit of a dead person that haunts the land of the living. Across the world there are stories about ghosts, but different cultures often disagree as to what ghosts are and whether they are just figments of imagination or a part of reality.

Some say that ghosts appear as shadows, orbs, full body apparitions or only as signs sometimes, such as moving objects, cold spots etc..

Famous cases

• One popular haunting is the Tower of London, which is reported to be haunted by:
  • The headless ghost of Anne Boleyn
  • The ghost of Thomas Becket
  • The ghosts of King Edward V of England and Richard, Duke of York
  • The ghost of Lady Jane Grey
  • The ghost of Sir Walter Raleigh
  • A troupe of ghosts who allegedly reenact the execution of Margaret Pole, 8th Countess of Salisbury

• Biggin Hill (a World War II airbase) in London, England is also reportedly haunted by many ghosts.

• The English cities of York and Derby are also reputed to be a center of ghostly activity and both thrive on hugely successful ghost tours.

• The White House in Washington, D.C. is said to be haunted by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln.

• Alcatraz off the coast of San Francisco is said to be home to a number of ghosts of prisoners who died there.

• New Orleans is sometimes called "America's most haunted city" with numerous ghost reports, especially in the French Quarter.

• The Museum of Natural Science in Ottawa, Ontario is said to be haunted by the ghost of the Canadian Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier.

• It is said that the ghost of a young bride inhabits the The Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta.
  The legend claims that she was descending a staircase when a gust of wind from an open window moved her wedding dress train, causing her to trip and fall to her death.

• Edinburgh, Scotland is a hotspot for activity. The Edinburgh Vaults have become a popular spot for paranormal enthusiasts.
