Global Warming is a climate phenomenon of global increase in the temperature of the atmosphere of the planet. The phenomenon has occurred periodically, same as has the opposite phenomenon of global cooling, through thousands of years of the Earth's history.
Description
Climate change, and the complex reasons behind it, is what has caused periods in our planet's history like ice ages and warmer periods. The global temperature of the Earth has in past times been both significantly higher and significantly lower than it is today.
An important part of the mechanism behind the global climate on Earth, is what is called the greenhouse effect, where the atmosphere functions similarly to a greenhouse, letting warmth from the Sun in and then keeping some of it "trapped".
Anthropogenic global warming debate
Recently there has been much talk, including some controversy, of the topic of the effect of humans on Earth's climate through industrial and other releases of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other so-called greenhouse gases. That talk is thus about what is termed anthropogenic global warming, or, human caused global warming.
