A haunted house is a residence that is said to have supernatural or paranormal phenomenon ocurring inside of it. This activity can be said to be haunted by a deceased person, such as a ghost, a poltergeist, or even a malevolent entity such as a demon. Many times the spectral activity in the house is associated with a violent event that happened at some time in the past. Such as a suicide or a murder. Hauntings can take many different shapes and forms, from things like noises, spoken words, the movement of objects, to manifestations of the spirit.

Ghost hunters

Paranormal investigators, such as ghost hunters, use many methods and instruments to study a haunted house to see if it is haunted. Among the equiptment used are EMF (Electro-Magnetic Frequencies) meters, digital cameras, video cameras, tape recorders and FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) Meters. Some of the most surprising evidence of a haunting comes from the use of tape recorders to record what are known as EVP recordings, (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). What happens is the investigators will ask the spirits questions and for signs while investigating a haunted house. Initially nothing is heard, however upon play back voices and noises can be heard, sometimes seemingly intelligently responding to the questions of the investigators.
