Illinois Triangle UFO

The Illinois Triangle UFO incident began on the evening of January 4, 2000 at approximately 10:30 p.m. near Lake Forest and was observed and tracked across the Illinois throughout the night until it ended with the last sighting on the morning of January 5 at 6:50 a.m. near Centerville. The triangular UFO was observed by numerous civilian and police witnesses, and was photographed by an Illinois police officer. Although the UFO was at one point within one mile of Scott Air Force Base, they disavowed any knowledge or awareness of the craft. The case garnered nationwide press coverage.

First witness

Time: 10:30 p.m. Location: Lake Forest

A civilian watched the UFO glide slowly over his house. He described it as being larger than a 747, with about 500 evenly spaced white lights on its underside. He reported hearing no sound from the craft as it headed southwest.

Second witness

Time: 4:00 a.m. Location: Highland

Melvern Noll was outside his business when he noticed a star-like object approaching him. As it got closer, he saw an object just over tree-top level with two or three stories like a house, football-field sized, with windows along the sides and lit up internally. It had red lights shining down towards the ground and bright front light pointing in the direction of travel. It made no noise as he watched it for approximately five minutes. Noll got in his truck and drove to the police department, asking them to notify the next town that it was traveling in their direction. The dispatcher obliged and notified the Lebanon Police Department.

Time: 4:12 a.m. Location: Lebanon

Officer Ed Barton of Lebanon heard the dispatcher advising to be on the lookout for an immense flying object with bright lights. He spotted it in the direction of Summerville and proceeded to drive in that direction. As he neared it, it began moving towards him, nearing to 120 feet. He described it as a massive elongated triangle, 75 x 325 feet, making no noise. Like the previous witness, he kept in view for a total of 5 minutes, and as it began moving again in a southwest direction, he quickly radioed the dispatcher.

Fourth witness

Time: 4:23 (approx.) Location: O’Fallon

Detective Mark Lopinot of the O’Fallon Police Department saw twinkling lights in an arrangement larger than a 747. As it grew closer, he saw two rows of five lights, three on top and two below. At first he thought he was looking at helicopters flying in formation until he rolled down the window of his squad car and realized they were not making any sound. If flew off over the tree tops at a height of approximately 500 feet.

Fifth witness

Time: 4:24 a.m. Location: Shiloh

Officer David Martin of Shiloh heard the dispatch and spotted the UFO, describing it as 75 – 100 feet wide with three very bright lights shining straight down. He viewed it for approximately 20 seconds, and just as he remembered his Polaroid camera in the trunk of his car, the craft shot off towards the west, accelerating from approximately 15 mph to 100 mph.

Sixth witness

Time: 4:28 a.m. Location: Millstadt

Officer Craig Stevens reported the object as being 500 – 1000 feet in altitude, huge, like a fat arrowhead with strobing lights on its rear, and emitting a low buzzing sound.

Stevens retrieved his Polaroid and took a single photograph. The camera’s motor froze, but 3 lights on the UFO’s underside are visible.

Seventh witness

Time: 5:03 a.m. Location: Dupo

Using binoculars, Officer Matt Jany of the Dupo Police Department reported that the object had a red light underneath and bright flashing lights around the perimeter.

Eighth witness

Time: 6:50 a.m. Location: Centerville

School teacher Stephen Winnacott was driving to work when he spotted a hovering arrow-shaped object, much larger than an airliner, in the morning light. It had two very bright lights and many smaller lights on its sides. He kept it in view for about four minutes as he drove before losing sight of it.
