Knights of PythiasFrom TinWiki.org
The Knights of Pythias is an international fraternal organization and secret society, which was founded in Washington, DC, February 19, 1864, by Justus H. Rathbone, who had been inspired by a play by the Irish poet John Banim about the legendary friendship of Damon and Pythias, who were historical characters living approximately four hundred years before the beginning of the Christian era. They were members of a school, founded by Pythagoras, who was known as the father of Greek philosophy. This legend illustrates the ideals of loyalty, honor and friendship that are central to the order.
