National Sovereignty

From TinWiki.org

National sovereignty is a nation's autonomy, often related to the political entity of a country or nation state. National sovereignty is typically treasured by nations, and so as a notion is a central part of both the national culture and of the nation's law or written constitution. Sovereignty is the power to control a certain piece of land, the land can be controlled by a government, by the people or by an individual for example the golf player Tiger Woods recently bought a island to live on. In a famous book by the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau he wrote "the growth of the State giving the trustees of public authority more and means to abuse their power, the more the Government has to have force to contain the people, the more force the Sovereign should have in turn in order to contain the Government". Sovereignty is thought to be absolute and that it is been created so that kings could say what was theirs and that it will be enforced with complete power and without mercy. In the past people have tried to invade others, there have been two world wars over this. Sovereignty has not always been disputed by military action, most times it is first attempted to be resolved on a diplomatic level.
