The occult is often understood as supernatural influences, agencies, or phenomena. The word occult comes from Latin word occultus, which means hidden, concealed, or private.

For most practicing occultists, the occult is simply the study of a deeper spiritual "reality" that cannot be understood using pure reason or physical sciences.

It is believed that many secret societies practice or possess much knowledge of the occult.
