Operation Highjump

From TinWiki.org

Operation Highjump was launched by the countries of The United States Of America, Canada, Australia and Britain on the 26 of August 1946. The operation was headed by Admiral Richard E Byrd of the United States Navy and it is said that the project's goal was to wipe out Nazis.

Specifics

The Government's answer to why the operation was launched are as follows:

  1. To train personnel in frigid or cold environments.
  2. To consolidate and expand American sovereignty over the largest practical area of the Antarctic continent.
  3. To determine the possibility of building a base in Antarctica and to investigate bases that were already there.
  4. To develop techniques for establishing and maintaining air bases on the ice, with particular attention to the later applicability of such techniques to operations in interior Greenland (where, it was then believed, physical and climatic conditions resembled those in Antarctica).
  5. To expand knowledge of Antarctica's geographic, geothermal, geological, hydrographic and electro-magnetic data in the area.

A lot of military seacraft were deployed for the operation, which casts suspicion on government claims that the operation was launched for peaceful research purposes.

The list of the United States seacraft involved are as follows:

  • Northwind - Byrd's very own command ship and Icebreaker
  • Brownsen - Navy Destroyer
  • Pine Island - Naval Catapult Ship
  • Phillipines Sea - Naval Aircraft Carrier
  • Sennet - Submarine
  • Yankee - Naval Support ship
  • Merrick - Naval Support ship
  • Canisted - Navy Tanker
  • Cacopan - Navy Tanker
  • Henderson - Naval Destroyer
  • Currituck - Naval Floatplane
  • Mount Olympus - Communications ship

As mentioned previously, these are the USA craft only.

Strange facts

The operation was called off prematurely. The reason for this, according to some of the crew members, was that the team was overwhelmed by Nazi flying disks, most probably of the Vril and Thul variety.

Another strange event about this was that Byrd himself had been speaking to American defense leaders about preparing for an invasion from aircraft that could fly from pole to pole at incredible speed. Richard E Byrd also was inquiring to the US Government about building a base at the north pole.

Admiral Byrd became ill after he returned from partaking in news conferences all around the world, and when he arrived back in the US he was told not to go to any more of them. After a while he was entered as leader of Operation Deepfreeze, another Antarctic project, but oddly enough ended up dying. There are those that say he was murdered.

Strange fact about Admiral Byrd

Admiral Byrd supposedly kept a diary which details him journeying to the center of the Earth via a large hole at the pole. The diary describes an exotic, lush environment with many strange creatures and inhabitants. Many "Hollow Earthers," as proponents of the theory are known, cite Admiral Byrd's diary as proof of a hollow Earth.
