Reinventing the wheel

From TinWiki.org

Reinventing the wheel is an expression that has been used to describe a lack of community wide efforts at progressing the body of "alternative information", resulting in leads in for example the area of UFO information being brought up again and again, disregarding existing information that has already been established about those leads. When it comes to terminology there are simple and complex views on the name. Reinventing the wheel, it first shows us the Wheel part, the wheel shows the ingenuity of humanity and that we can do almost anything when we put our minds to it, it shows us our technology and our power over other species on this planet. The whell is currently thought to have zero designs flaws in any way shape or form, thus proving that reinventing the whell would be pointless and unnecessary. That metaphor is meant to show us that trying to reinvent it would distract the investigator from what he should really be looking for and what he should really be doing.

Reinventing the wheel has so many meanings that it is sometimes hard to keep up. One way is that reinventing the wheel may be good, some teachers and professors purposely make there pupils and students reinvent the wheel so that they learn basic skills in certain areas of certain fields.
