Thought to be a relative to the Sasquatch or Big Foot, it has been reported to smell very much like a skunk.

The Skunk Ape is a cryptozoological creature that allegedly exists in the south-eastern section of the United States. Most reports of the animal come from Florida, although other states have claimed to be inhabited by it. The name of the creature is derived from the reports of it, that it is an ape, that is accompanied by a rather strong odor. The Skunk ape has been described as everything from an escaped Orangutan, to a Bigfoot type creature.

Description

The Skunk ape is usually described as looking like an large man-ape that walks on its hind legs. It is said to stand around 6 to 7 feet tall, and weighs about 450 pounds. The creatures hair is described as being brown or reddish-brown. Most reports of the animal come from the Florida Everglades. However in 2003 the Skunk ape was reported in Corryington, Tennessee by many people. It was implicated in the disappearance of a large number of cats, which people believed were being eaten by the hominid.

In the year 2000, two photographs of the Skunk ape were mailed anonymously to the Sarasota Police department. A letter accompanied the pictures saying that a woman had seen the creature 3 nights in a row in her backyard, eating apples from a bushell there. She took the pictures, thinking the animal was an orangutan. Loren Coleman has been researching the photographs, and has claimed to have tracked down the location of the photo lab that developed the pictures.

The Dan Jackson Encounters

Dan Jackson is a venomous snake expert from Lithia. He has spent over 20 years tracking the Florida skunk ape, and he has brushed up against the creature on more than one occasion. Dan recently appeared on the History Channel's "Monster Quest" series, talking about his close up and terrifying encounter with the being. He does not give the usual, "peaceful" description of these creatures, but describes it as a ferocious, extremely fast moving individual with very high intelligence.
