Spear of DestinyFrom TinWiki.orgThe legendary Spear of Destiny is reported to be the spear that pierced the side of Jesus of Nazareth as he hung from the cross. It is also known as the Holy Lance and the Spear of Longinus, who was the Roman soldier that inflicted the wound. According to the legend, whoever possesses the lance holds the destiny of the world in his hands, for good or evil.
[edit] Power of the LanceThe first sign of the lances mystical power was the reported healing of Longinus’s failing eyesight. Upon piercing the side of Jesus some water and blood from the wound splashed into his eyes, restoring his sight. The Centurion became one of the earliest converts to Christianity and was later put to death for being a Christian. Another theory is that Longinus was put to death for helping a convicted criminal survive, by piercing Jesus' thorax instead of breaking his bones. Piercing the thorax (chest cavity) of someone suffering from a punctured longue may heal the patient and allow him to breathe again by reducing the pressure on the longues. After all, the indications given in the Gospel is that Jesus stops breathing and that water comes along with blood when the thorax is pierced. That suggests a punctured longue, and to heal it the thorax must be pierced. [edit] World LeadersNo less than 45 world leaders have claimed the Lance over the past 1000 years. The most famous of them being Adolf Hitler, who later wrote of his first encounter with it: "I knew with immediacy that this was an important moment in my life...I stood there quietly gazing upon it for several minutes, quite oblivious to the scene around me. It seemed to carry some hidden inner meaning which evaded me, a meaning which I felt I inwardly knew, yet could not bring to consciousness...I felt as though I myself had held it in my hands before in some earlier century of history - that I myself had once claimed it as my talisman of power and held the destiny of the world in my hands. What sort of madness was this that was invading my mind and creating such turmoil in my breast?" [edit] CloningIt has also been theorized that it may be possible to Clone Jesus Christ by sampling DNA found on the spear. However, the degradation of the DNA in the blood would be so great that it would become nearly impossible to do so. [edit] Media & EntertainmentIn the Japanese Animated TV show (aka. Anime) known as Neon Genesis: Evangelion, the Spear of Longinus is featured as a weapon that was used to contain and control an alien being known as Lilith. NG:E features heavy religious symbolism and is directed by acclaimed Japanese director Hideaki Anno, who re-wrote the finale movie with excessive biblical (and deep-sea scroll) symbolism after excessive fan outcry regarding the original ending. The Spear of Destiny was a major plot device in the film Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves. [edit] External Links
