Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape program

From TinWiki.org

Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape program (SERE)is a semi-secretive CIA-program. This program is designed to train U.S. soldiers to resist torture if captured. This program has also been reverse-engineered by R. Scott Shumate and Coworkers of the CIA to implement brutal interrogation techniques. As has been revealed by two CIA-employed psychologists, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, who were at the center of the program, these interrogations techniques violate the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners. The military's use of SERE training for interrogations in the war on terror was revealed in detail in a recently declassified report. This report was buried among 1,000 pages obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union through the Freedom of Information Act. This document was a March 22, 2005, sworn statement by the former chief of the Interrogation Control Element at Guantánamo who said that instructors from SERE also taught their methods to interrogators of the prisoners in Cuba.
