Terrestrial is anything whose origin is Earth. Skeptics often strain to associate UFO sightings with phenomenon rooted in Earth origins. Many times, sightings are shoe-horned into preconceived notions about what the sighting could be. It is not uncommon to hear a person trying to give “practical” explanation for a UFO sighting that sounds as ridiculous as they imagine UFO believers to be. Many times, UFOs are simply regarded as being made by humans or fake.

Fake

In the recent decade, many highly regarded stories surrounding mysterious phenomenon have been debunked or revealed to be hoaxes by the perpetrators themselves. For example, many have been disappointed that the most famous photo of the Loc Ness Monster is a hoax, as noted in the Wikipedia.org article about the supposed creature. Skeptics consider the UFO phenomenon to consist of a large number of fakes.

Human Made

UFO watchers also classify UFOs as human made. These can be secret military craft, hoaxs or other devices of human origin.

Natural Phenomenon

Some UFO sightings have been attributed to natural phenomenon. Some of these are well understood, while others are only notions. One example of well understood misattributions is that of clouds which may be misinterpreted as UFOs. An unproven example of attribution is Tectonic Strain Theory of UFOs, where is has been notioned that earthquakes may cause light effects in the sky right around the time they occur, and that these lights may be interpreted as UFOs.
