This page has an overview of some suggestions for how to contribute to tinWiki.

General article formatting improvements

tinWiki has certain guidelines for how articles can be set up, and one way of improving tinWiki is to adjust at least some "obvious" aspects of articles so they comply with the general style manual. This includes:

  • Adding bullets (if absent) to lists such as "External links" lists. How: at the very beginning of each line in the list, add an asterisk and a space. (An asterisk is a star character like this * .) Example: * List item
  • Deleting repetition (if any) of title from headers. (For example, inside article Black Helicopter, a header named "Black Helicopter sightings" should be changed to simply "Sightings".)
  • Correcting headers to have upper case only for first letter of first word and nouns. For example, a header named "Relevant Discussion Threads" should be changed to "Relevant discussion threads".

Write new text

Before creating or adding to pages, new users may want to first look at some existing articles and glance at the Help section to get a general idea of how tinWiki encyclopedia articles are written. Rule of thumb: Write the article text yourself, in your own words, and name your sources at the bottom.

Wanted pages

tinWiki has two overviews over wanted pages, one is generated automatically based on links from existing articles, the other is written manually.

Stubs

Some articles are very short and are labelled "Stub" to indicate that expansion of the contents is necessary to make the article more complete. Pages that need information added to them are listed here.

Improve articles

Articles that need to be fixed to meet tinWiki standards are listed here.

List some relevant discussion threads

The tinWiki encyclopedia is sponored by the discussion board AboveTopSecret. Discussions that are relevant for an article's topic can be listed at the bottom of the article, preferably under a header that says, "Relevant discussion threads".

To create a bulleted list, begin each list item with an asterisk star character * and a blank space, then begin the link code with a left square bracket [, then add the discussion URL, then a blank space again, then the discussion title (this will be the link label), then end the link code with a right square bracket ]. Example:
