Welcome to the Community portal
|
Welcome to the tinWiki Community portal.
tinWiki is a free online encyclopedia written by its users—you. To contribute to the project of creating an encyclopedia with information about conspiracies, ghosts, UFOs and other "alternative information", all you have to do is click on "edit" (third tab from the left) and you have already begun. You are welcome to do so—on any article here you wish to improve.
On this page you should find everything that is of use when working on tinWiki. If anything seems to be missing from this page, feel free to add it, or comment on it in the discussion.

If you want more suggestions, feel free to stop by the tinWiki working forum over in ATS (join/log in) and talk to fellow friendly tinWiki users who might be able to help.
Quick tip: Write the encyclopedia article text yourself, in your own words, and name your sources at the bottom of the article text.

The basics
|
tinWiki is an online encyclopedia—in the form of a wiki. A wiki is a particular type of website in which visitors can create new pages "at the click of a button", and where every page can be edited by anyone reading the page and wanting to improve it. This is what type of website tinWiki is.
This encyclopedia is for a specific type of topic only; this is, therefore, not a general encyclopedia and should not be confused with for example Wikipedia. The topic of tinWiki is conspiracy theories, plus certain other "alternative knowledge" topics like UFOs, ghosts and paranormal phenomena, mythological creatures, lost civilizations, and life on other planets.

The working forum
| tinWiki's working forum is found at ATS, where a forum area is set aside for communication about contributing to tinWiki, the ATS encyclopedia wiki. Registering in the tinWiki website does not automatically register you in the AboveTopSecret.com forum website, and vice versa. Accounts are separate.

| Projects may be created for improving entire sets of articles. These Projects will generally—like all articles—be open for anyone who wishes to contribute.

| Attention MediaWiki experts
|
tinWiki needs your advice on certain MediaWiki "technicalities", since there are no MediaWiki experts among the current administrators and sysops.
Specifically: The CAPTCHA feature has been attempted installed in tinWiki, but the attempt wasn't successful. If you can help, please post in the discussion.
Addition: tinWiki is being attempted given some skin settings adjustments, to change the color scheme and possibly other skin changes, as well. If you can help, please post in the discussion, or contact tinWiki Masters William One Sac or Optimist.
|
| Spam edits
|
| tinWiki is, like many other wikis and websites, targeted by spammers using automatic spam "bots" to post unwanted links to various websites to generate revenue. There is a CAPTCHA feature installed in tinWiki, which stops much of such spam bots. Unfortunately, tinWiki's software's current version is not able to use the CAPTCHA plugin, and must be upgraded for this feature to actually work.
