The full story of Travis Walton (born April 23, 1957) has to be one of the biggest events in the field of ufology and abductions. In most abduction cases there are just one witness, the abductee themselves. However, in this case, there were several witnesses, including one, whom came forward much later, who was an active military intelligence officer. Travis claims to have been abducted by a UFO on November 5, 1975, while working as a logger in a logging team in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Arizona. Travis went missing for 5 days and a major search was initiated for him, meanwhile his logging team mates were deeply under the suspicion of murder.
[edit] The eventIt was just another typical days labour of felling trees and preparing the logs. Little did anyone suspect the events that were about to unfold. None of them had any idea what was about to happen. Mike Rogers was team leader and Travis's best friend. The other members of the team were Ken Peterson, John Goulette, Steve Pierce, Allen Dallis and Dwayne Smith. They had been contracted by the United States Forest Service for several forestry duties. Just after 6PM of the 5th, they all finished work for the day and piled into the truck to make their way home. After a short while along the road towards home they saw a large, brightly shining, silvery disc. Mike Rogers stopped the truck so they could get a better view at what they were seeing, when Travis suddenly decides to jump and and run towards the disc. The team desperately shouted for Travis to come back, but he didn't. Then the craft began making a strange noise and started wobbling to which Travis slowly began to make his way back to the truck. The team then saw a blue-green light strike Travis and threw him several feet, upon which Travis fell to the floor and did not move. With fear gripping the team Mike Rogers revved the truck up and sped off. About half a mile up the road, the truck left the road and Rogers was forced to stop the truck. Thinking Travis was dead, they decided to go back and find Travis. The disc and Travis were nowhere to be found. The team searched for over half an hour. [edit] PoliceDeputy Sheriff Chuck Ellison picked up the phone and found himself talking to Peterson who claimed one of their logging team mates was missing out in the woodland. Ellison agreed to meet up with them. The team relayed the events that had just taken place to Ellison. An almost unbelievable tale, yet Ellison was convinced that none of them were acting or lying or covering anything up. Sheriff Marlin Gillespie and Officer Ken Coplan arrived to interview the men about an hour after Ellison had met the team. Mike Rogers insisted on returning to the area to begin a search for his friend and co-worker, Travis. The police and some of the crew returned to the scene to start looking while the rest of the team went back to town to report to family and friends. At the abduction scene, there was no evidence, anywhere to suggest anything at all had ever happened. Suspicion of the team began to grow within the minds of the police. By the morning of the 6th, there was still no trace of Travis. That Saturday, Rogers and Travis's brother went back out looking, only to discover there were no police looking, so they returned to town. All of a sudden, there was a helicopter, dogs and police on horses all out looking for Travis. [edit] The polygraph testsCy Gilson began testing the team on his polygraph unit. Cy was asking questions about whether any of them had harmed Travis or knew someone who did. Asking them if they knew where Travis was buried. Had they really seen a UFO? All the men answered truthfully and according to Cy, all passed the test except for Dallis who failed to complete the questioning. After the Cy Gilson gave his report to the police. Sheriff Gillespie made the statement that he believed the team to be completely truthful and that they did indeed see a UFO. [edit] Travis returnsNovember 10, at around midnight, Grant Neff answered hi telephone to hear a voice saying "They brought me back! I'm out here in Heber, please get somebody to come and get me!" Neff thought it was a joke and was about to hang up, when Travis told Neff who he was. Neff drove out to collect Travis's brother. They both thought it might be a prank, but it was worth finding out, so they began the thirty three mile journey to meet Travis. Travis was overjoyed at his brother and Neff's arrival and spent a while blurting out comments about big eyes, pale skin and them staring at him all the time. Travis made a remark about him having been unconscious for about an hour and half or so, his brother told Travis to feel his face. Travis had 5 days worth of facial growth to which his brother confirmed. [edit] News breaks outBy Tuesday afternoon, news that Travis was back had broken out. That day there were many phone calls, amongst them was one from Coral Lorenzen of APRO, a civilian UFO research group. Coral organized a proper medical examination of Travis to ensure he was in good health and to determine the extent of what the aliens had done to Travis and to collect any possible evidence. [edit] MedicalTwo interesting points arose from the examination. The first being a small red needle like puncture wound near Travis's right elbow, but it was not anywhere near a vein. The second was that Travis's urine contained a very noticeable lack of acetone. Travis had obviously lost some weight, and your body will break down its fat content to help you survive which will increase the amount of acetone in your urine, but Travis had almost none. This was a bit of a problem for verifying the entire story, but did not prove it didn't happen. [edit] speculationFrom the start, there were those who were desperately trying to prove that Travis had either been murdered or this was all a hoax and that Travis had been hiding. This is one of the points that makes this case so interesting. Travis's entire experience is something only he knows for sure and what his logging team mates had witnessed. To everyone else, this sort of thing was still in the realms of 'tin foil hat' wearing fools and 1950's 'aliens attack' movies. [edit] Aliens
After the examination, Travis went to speak with Sheriff Gillespie and to tell him exactly what had happened. This was the first time Travis had spoken of the event to anyone except his family and close friends. Travis awoke feeling badly burnt and aching all over. He had very little physical strength. His mouth was dry and he was very thirsty. As he lay there, he could see a small light above him and thought he was in hospital but was asking himself why he still had all his work clothes on, including his boots. Then he remembered what had happened to him, to which, he realised that his shirt had been lifted up around his shoulders and that there was a device of some kind covering his chest and lower abdomen. He could just about see three 'doctors' moving around him. They were wearing orange overalls and white face masks and caps as far as Travis could make out. His senses still not fully functioning. [edit] Clear visionThen his sight returned completely and what Travis saw next shocked him terribly. Three small humanoid figures. Travis looked at them as they looked at him. He lunged out knocking one of them into another and Travis got up off the table he was on. the device on his chest falling to the floor. Standing just under 5 feet tall, the humanoid figures had big luminous brown eyes, very pale skin, frail, slim bodies, large heads, small lips and nose and never said a word to Travis or to each other. They tried to get control over Travis once again, but Travis was having none of it and fended them off with a crystal-glass like object he had found. They soon left him alone in the room they were all in. The three of them turned and walked out the doorway. [edit] ExploringCautiously, Travis began to look around for a better weapon but felt that some of the objects he found may have done more harm to him than anyone else. Empty handed he made his way out the door and turned in the opposite direction the three humanoids had gone. Walking down the corridor he found a room with a single chair sat in the middle of it. He ventured inside and slowly began to circle the chair to see if anyone was in it. there was not, but there appeared to be buttons and a control handle on the chair that Travis thought to be worthwhile investigating. Upon approaching the chair, Travis noticed the room get darker and small pin pricks of light filter into the darkness. He stepped back and the room returned to normal. Stepping forwards again and the darkness came back with the tiny spots of light. He got closer to the chair and realised that he must be looking at the stars and the devices on the chair must be some form of route planner or flight control. he began pressing all manner of buttons trying to see if one of them would open a door for his escape. [edit] HumanTravis stopped and turned towards the doorway to see a muscular Human male wearing a blue suit and a clear helmet. Travis was relieved to see another Human, and the Human gestured to Travis to follow him. Travis complied but was asking all manner of questions. There was no reply. They walked through the corridors to enter a small room in which they spent a couple of minutes until a door in the opposite end of the room opened. Travis and the man exited only to find themselves in a much larger area containing not only the craft Travis was in but two others also. These objects shone like polished chrome. These craft were about forty feet in diameter, each. The man led Travis to a doorway, then through to another doorway. On the other side of this last door was a table and a chair, and three more humans. One of which was female. All the time, Travis was desperately trying to communicate with them but they never said anything. The female approached Travis and moved to place a device which Travis describe to be 'like a medical oxygen mask' upon his face. Then Travis blacked out once again. [edit] HomeTravis awoke to find himself lying on the road, watching a shiny, silvery object hovering above him, when it just suddenly shot off. Travis expected to hear a noise of some sort, but there was not even a whoosh of air or any engine noise. Travis recognised where he was and stumbled to his feet and ran, shakily, up the road to the Exxon station in Heber to make the frantic phone call to Grant Neff to come and get him. [edit] MovieAlthough slightly controversial in its adaptation, the movie 'Fire in the sky' is the only movie ever made about this event. The trouble lies in the events aboard the craft. Apparently, the movie company wanted to change the events to make the film more watchable for the audience. Basically, they made it not so 'wishy-washy' and added some extra terror. [edit] The bookIs a factual account of all that had happened and was written by Travis Walton. It's an extremely interesting read and highlights how much difference there is between the truth and what the film makers wanted you to see. Watch the film for the 'half truth', read the book for Travis's truth. [edit] External links[edit] Related discussion threads on AboveTopSecret.com |
