Ultraterrestrial is the term for advanced beings that are from Earth, but are generally hidden from view of humans. They may have evolved on Earth, just as humans. They may also be interdimensional in nature. Either way, they are able to hide themselves from observation because they are so far advanced beyond human technology. Or, they may be so advanced that humans do not have the physical or mental ability to perceive their existance. This is perhaps similar to how ants would not be able to understand or even perceive a human who is watching it.

Human nature almost naturally forces an egotistical assumption that the human species is the most highly developed to evolve on Earth. Human arrogance would be misplaced if we happened to be the ant being watched by an ultraterrestrial.

Even still, since humans occupy so much of our planet, and have such a firm grip on 3 dimensional perceptions, it is considered by many to be very unlikely any other beings could be hidden from view. However, when direct evidence is considered, there is little difference between this concept and that of Extraterrestrials.
