Link formatting tips

Hi. Just a few pointers on link formatting.

A normal URL can simply be pasted as it is. However, a more "presentable" link is made by beginning with a left square bracket, entering the URL, then leaving an open space, then writing in the text which will be the link label, which is to say, the text that the reader will click, and then finishing with a right square bracket.

Example:

[http://tinwiki.org tinWiki]

tinWiki

Note the space.

Then there is reference numbers. As you know, these are made by entering URLs with square brackets around them, and nothing more. When using such reference numbers in the article text, it's advisable to create s Footnotes section below the main article text. There one should preferably list all reference numbers and the full name of the website or reference, so use normal links. To create a numbered list, use a hash sign # instead of the asterisk * at the beginning of each list item. Make sure to not have blank lines between list items, or the numbered list will begin over for each list item, so all list items will be number 1. Correct example of numbered list:

# First list item
# Second list item
# Third list item

  1. First list item
  2. Second list item
  3. Third list item

As for internal links, links to other tinWiki articles, they are made by simply writing the name of the article, and put two square brackets around it. Example

[[Conspiracy]]

Conspiracy

To show a different word or string of words than the target article name, add a pipe and a link label you choose yourself. Example:

[[Conspiracy|an article]]

an article

Keep up the good work. Optimist 07:12, 20 June 2008 (CDT) yep this here is the first time I ever started a wiki or knew even halfway how to link...I will study your tips, but probably make mistakes yet yup9eyedeel 07:22, 20 June 2008 (CDT)

Footnotes sections

9eyedeel,

Hi. A tip regarding footnotes sections: The footnotes section in the San La Muerte article should look something like this:

  1. Confesó uno de los autores de crimen satánico
  2. Confesó uno de los autores de crimen satánico
  3. San La Muerte

How that list is created:

# [http://www.diariodecuyo.com.ar/home/new_noticia.php?noticia_id=261900 Confesó uno de los autores de crimen satánico]
# [http://www.diariodecuyo.com.ar/home/new_noticia.php?noticia_id=261900 Confesó uno de los autores de crimen satánico]
# [http://www.sanlamuerte.blogspot.com/ San La Muerte]

Keep up the good work. Optimist 20:46, 26 June 2008 (CDT)

Hi, again. I did some editing in the San La Muerte article to correct the footnotes. When you write an external link with the wiki code method, there absolutely needs be no space after the first square bracket, and to be no space before the second/last square bracket, otherwise the code won't work.
Footnotes also need the numbered list, since the whole point of the footnotes is that they should explain the numbers in the text, so they need to be a numbered list and to correspond to the numbers that appear in the article text. A numbered list is created by adding a hash # sign at the beginning of each line. The hash signs are what turns into the numbers, if I can put it like that. If you have any questions about formatting or guidelines or that type of thing, let me know and I'll try to answer. Keep up the good work. Optimist 07:40, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
