[edit] Adding images to tinWiki.orgHello ProTo Fire Fox, I just want to let you know, that when you add an image to a tinwiki page, you should also add the page to the tinwiki archive page. When you add an image, please note if the image is in the public domain etc.. We do not use any copywritten images without the expressed permission of the copywrite owner. Thanks for all of the hard work you have been doing. William One Sac 19:04, 18 March 2008 (CDT) [edit] Tiny style commentProTo Fire Fox, Hello. I just looked at the Chillingham caste article. The article is really nice as far as the text and how it's written and laid out. My tiny comment is regarding the title of articles, which gets put on top of the page automatically. For that reason, the article text should preferably just start right away, I mean without any "second" (as it really becomes) article title inside the text itself. Also, feel free to format the external links section as a proper section, I mean with a proper header. Anyway, the article looks really good, and this is just little nit-picking, really, what I mentioned right now. Good work. Optimist 08:57, 19 March 2008 (CDT) [edit] HiFox, Very nice work, the new articles you've initiated, and I definitely think those topics of gods and so on are very interesting. I think they're related to several of the focuses that tinWiki has. I'm reminded for example of that Quetzequatl (sp?) god type being they have in South America, I think it is, which is of course said by some people to be some kind of space alien or such. And also how the Norse pantheon is said to be related to the pantheon of Hinduism (I think it is), and of course there are some things in Indian mythology that some claim might be real events, about space ship type technology and wars in the sky, and so on. So, anyway, I certainly think this is a great type of topics for tinWiki, since it relates both to mythology and possibly some true (?) elements in that, and maybe goes partly into lost civilizations (I mean like Atlantis, and that sort of thing), and also possible space alien type connections, and so on. Such things is great tinWiki stuff, in my opinion. :-) The way you write the articles looks very good, and so my comments that I have are extremely small detail nit-picking stuff. Here are some style comments and such then: I would encourage you to always feel free to use the formatted headers (put a main header, and sub-topics can get sub-headers, which are three equal signs on each side of the header, instead of two). Also, the first sentence should, precisely like you also write it, start with saying immediately what the title/topic is; and in that first sentence, the word from the title should get bold font formatting. Lastly, according to the tinWiki style manual, horizontal rules should be used extremely sparingly, so instead of separating paragraphs using those, I would encourage you to simply keep a blank line between paragraphs, and if it's a new topic that the next paragraph talks about, give it a header. Also, something that you do right, except for just one place I noticed, is that one should talk in a 'neutral direction', not from first person (I) to second person (you), and words should always be spelled out (example: "do not" instead of "don't"). Your work looks good, these contributions, the articles you have made, are great improvements of tinWiki. Optimist 04:19, 7 May 2008 (CDT) [edit] Welcome aboard FoxHey Fox! Welcome as our newest Editor. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask myself or Optimist. You will get the hang of things as you go along. In the meantime check out this page: Editor (Sysop) Mission Statement. Thanks for all of your effort! William One Sac 09:25, 11 June 2008 (CDT) [edit] ImagesFox, please remember to enter all the images you use in articles into the image description page, and also feel free to remind other users of the same. We need to document the copyright status of all images that we use. Optimist 08:14, 19 June 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Rollback tipFox, Hi. This is just a tip on how to use the Rollback feature. If a spammer has edited a page, you can click on the link in the Recent changes page that displays the spammer's IP address. You will then get up a list of contributions made from that IP address. Next to edits where no other user has edited the same page afterwards, so that the spammer was the last to edit the given page, there will be a link called "rollback". If you click that link, the page in question will be instantaneously rolled back to the version by the previous user. It's a quite fast and simple method, so I just wanted to mention it to you in case you weren't aware of it. If the user has made several edits in a row at the same page, the page will still be reverted to the version by the previous user, which means all the spammer's edits will be rolled back when you click "rollback". But, like what talked about a while back, I think, if several users or IP addresses have spammed a given page, the automatic rollback feature isn't too practical, and then it's better to go to the page's version history list and view the latest legitimate version, click edit, and save that latest legitimate version. Optimist 16:36, 22 June 2008 (CDT) [edit] Deleting contentFox, I noticed you deleted the Four Corners page since it deals with the same type of topic as the Area 51 article. However, I didn't find any mention of Four Corners in the Area 51 article, and so have pasted the content from the deleted page to make a section in the Area 51 page. Remember that tinWiki is about content, and therefore there should be deletions only under very special circumstances, such as when the content is totally outside of tinWiki's general area of focus, or if content is illegal to publish in tinWiki. If two pages deal with the same topic, it is better to merge the content of one into the other, and then make the one a redirect page to the other, instead of deleting a page altogether. Hi. I thought of this, too, and tried to create a similar Template for this, just copying the Image Template and making some adjustments to it. I've been trying to adjust the margins that give some space between the image itself and the text that comes up next to the image, and perhaps some other adjustments like that, but I'm not sure the Template works quite as it should, yet. If you have any feedback, stuff you'd like to have be a bit different in how the image is displayed in the article when using this Template, feel free to make changes to the Template, or you can let me know what changes you would like, and I will try and change the Template accordingly. Btw., another little experiment I started with, was to see if I can add borders around the image in a way that at least looks reasonably presentable. I haven't succeeded really well with that, yet. Anyway, the left aligning Template is used like the normal Image Template, except this is called Leftsideimage, so instead of {{Image|Image=....}} the code is {{Leftsideimage|Image=...}}. Maybe I should change it so both words, both the one before the pipe bar and the one after the pipe bar, are "Leftsideimage", for simplicity. Let me know if you have any questions on how to use this, and also let me know if you'd like me to try and change how the Template works, I'll be happy to try and make the adjustments. :-) Optimist 12:19, 9 July 2008 (CDT) [edit] Bad newsHello Fox, That is indeed bad news. I hope you can get back up and running soon. We will be here, eagerly awaiting your return. Maybe you can find a library or something with internet access in the meantime. 60 pounds? Thats alot of money. That would be like 140 dollars here. Sorry to hear this man... William One Sac 17:52, 3 August 2008 (CDT) [edit] Two quick commentsFox, Hi. I was just browsing or glansing at the recent changes list to try and catch up a little bit on what happened just recently. I noticed that in the StrangeBrew user page you added the user box thing that says the member is also registered in ATS. Btw., I'm thinking every now and then that some more user boxes could be nice. Anyway, I'm not sure if in this case now you and StrangeBrew had talked beforehand or such and you're helping him out, but in general it seems it's considered polite to never edit other people's user pages (if they ask for some help specifically, that's different, naturally..). I also noticed, I think two places, the new Welcome table. That looks really good. Feel free to go ahead an put that in a template page, of course, if you wish. Then one could post it by just entering the name and the double sets of curly brackets, like with other templates. Anyway, that's really good looking, that table. When more members will be joining, as I hope they will be, such practical tools for helping them find some of the stuff they need, are of course a great addition to the 'infrastructure' of tinWiki. That type of thing is, I imagine, something that will be good to do only more and more of. Optimist 18:06, 13 August 2008 (CDT) |
