Welcome

Red, Welcome to tinWiki! Great work. If you have questions or there is anything I can do to help with anything, let me know and I will try my best. Optimist 15:43, 13 June 2007 (CDT)

A couple of handy wiki code tips

Just skimmed through the Recent changes list right now and thought to mention to you these few wiki code tips that might come in handy.

Redirect code. One thing about this nice feature is it doesn't handle double redirects, that is a redirect to a redirect in a chain will not work in the usual automatic way (instead, a link will be displayed on the second redirect page).

Internal links. A formatting method in this wiki code, which can be very useful in certain sentences, is that one can make the link say something else than the actual name of the target page by adding a separate label. Here is how the label is added: some context appropriate term. (No period.) (Similarly, the code for external links is single square brackets instead of double, and space instead of pipe separating the URL and the link label/appearance.)

Categorization. The last tip in this short list here that I want to mention is categorization. The code to add a page to a category can appear on the top or the bottom or somewhere else in the actual wiki text -- regardless of where the code is put, the categorization label will always appear on the bottom of the actual tinWiki page that the wiki text makes up. The code is: . (No period.) Of course Secret Societies was just an example right now, the list of categories is here or can be found through the toolbox panel (Special pages) at the left hand side of all tinWiki pages. A nice feature of this code is the ability to sort by last name. This is how it's done: . (No period.) That way, a page called First Last, will now be sorted in the People category under "L".

Your work is looking great. Optimist 16:16, 17 June 2007 (CDT)

Copying and Pasting

Please do not copy and paste material from other websites. All such instances will be deleted. Please refer to the tutorial to see how to properly create a new tinWiki article. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but we cannot steal content from other websites and use it as our own. Thanks.

Thank you for your patience and your recommendations in doing some first steps on your great looking site.

I am sorry for these mistakes. As a newbie on mediawikis I still have a lot to learn. Therefore I appreciated your recommendations very much. tinWiki.orG is a great looking site. It was a big opportunity to make some minor contributions. --Red 01:09, 18 June 2007 (CDT)

You're doing great. The various details of how certain things are done you'll pick up as you go along. The important thing is your contributions, a mistake really is no big deal. Now, even though my account does have Editor status, this is not my site since I'm simply a registered visitor but I reply here anyway... :-) Optimist 04:21, 18 June 2007 (CDT)

Thank you for your help. It is great to work with you--Red 04:30, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
